ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose men's swimming and diving team rallied from seven points down over the final two events in order to come away with a thrilling 122-115 victory versus Bentley this afternoon. In a hard fought battle, the women's team fell just shy of Bentley by a 130-107 final.
Trailing 104-97 heading into the 200-yard breaststroke, the men made their charge as junior
Ryan Brauer took home top honors in the event with his time of 2:13.43, earning nine key points for the Golden Knights. Freshman
Stephen Delarede garnered four points for his second place finish, clocking in with a time of 2:21.75.
The results in the 200 breaststroke put Saint Rose ahead by two points, 111-109 and forced the meet to come down to the 200 freestyle relay. Bentley took the lead on the first leg, but junior
Vadim Yafayev put the Golden Knights ahead in the relay for the remainder of the race in the second leg. Junior
Bryan Shaver extended the lead in the race as he swam the fastest 50-yard time in a freestyle event for Saint Rose this season, sprinting his split in 21.73. Freshman
Kyle Wilson completed the overall victory in the relay for Saint Rose as the foursome hit the wall in a time of 1:30.21. The 11 points that Saint Rose picked up with the relay victory sealed the meet win for the Golden Knights.
Wilson had a good day individually for Saint Rose. He won the 500 and 1,000 freestyle events with times of 5:02.18 and 10:31.23 respectively.
On the women's side, junior
Caitlin Peterson and sophomore
Caitlin Brauer led the way for Saint Rose, each winning two events. Peterson took home the top spot in both the 100 and 200 freestyles with times of 54.41 and 1:58.28 respectively. The former bettered her own school record by 1/100th of a second.
Brauer swam a winning time of 2:14.00 in the 200 IM and followed it up with a win in the 500 freestyle, clocking in at 5:18.07.
Saint Rose dives into the pool again on Saturday, January 22 when it hosts Adelphi at The Albany Academy at 1:00 pm. Bentley will next host Babson on Wednesday at 6:00 pm.
