SAINT ROSE FALLS 11-8 TO NEW HAVEN

Junior catcher John Cole went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored in today's setback to New Haven.
ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose allowed an early 3-0 lead to evaporate as visiting New Haven scored at least a run in the third through eighth innings to hand the Golden Knights an 11-8 Northeast-10 Conference setback at Bleecker Stadium this afternoon. The game was marred by 10 errors and 21 runners left on base collectively as the Chargers (10-12/6-8 NE-10) avenged Tuesday's 6-3 setback to Saint Rose in West Haven.

Junior catcher John Cole went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, while sophomore shortstop Ryan Burke finished with three hits including an RBI double to lead the Golden Knights (11-18/6-8 NE-10). Also, senior first baseman Paul Partridge and sophomore third baseman Grant Smith homered to help the Saint Rose cause.

Freshman first baseman Cory Carr finished 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored, while senior second baseman Evan Okon and senior shortstop Kyle Bombace had two hits apiece to propel New Haven.

The Chargers scored five unanswered runs to go up 5-3, before Saint Rose countered with runs three in the sixth to take a 6-5 lead. However, New Haven went ahead to stay by pushing across two runs with two down in the seventh. The Chargers then broke it open to an 11-6 margin by generating four runs on only one hit an inning later.

Smith's two-run shot over the left-center field fence in the home half of the eighth accounted for the final margin.

In the second, the Golden Knights jumped out to a 3-0 cushion with Cole doing most of the damage via a two-run single to left. Partridge's leadoff homer, an RBI base hit from Cole and a run scoring double by Burke in the sixth afforded the Golden Knights a brief 6-5 advantage.

Both teams have league doubleheaders scheduled for Saturday. The Golden Knights will visit Stonehill College in Easton, MA for a noon date, while the Chargers travel to Pace University in Pleasantville for a noon meeting as well.
