GOLDEN KNIGHTS RUN AWAY FROM AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL

Junior right fielder Jake Perez drove in four runs to lead the Golden Knights past American International today.
SPRINGFIELD – The College of Saint Rose received outstanding performances from four different pitchers and the Golden Knights scored five runs in the second and two more in the third on the way to an 11-1 victory at Northeast-10 Conference rival American International today. Saint Rose (13-19/8-9 NE-10) has now won four of its last six; and six of its last nine.

Sophomore southpaw David Batchelder allowed only three hits and fanned four throughout 5.0 innings of work to run his record to 3-2 on the year. Junior right-hander Nate Ward, senior left-hander Emilio LaPietra and junior right-hander Seth Weston were just as effective out the bullpen. The trio gave up a mere run and faced just one batter over the minimum during the final four frames.

They benefited from a plethora of run support with junior right fielder Jake Perez and freshman second baseman Michael Carbone leading the charge. Perez finished 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four RBI, while Carbone went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two doubles as well. Also, junior catcher Derek Marshall finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Freshman third baseman Tyler McElman led off the seventh with a blast over the right-center field fence to account for the lone AIC (6-21/4-11 NE-10) score.

In the second, Marshall and Perez belted back-to-back doubles to make it 3-0 Saint Rose. Sophomore shortstop Ryan Burke then knocked Perez home with a base hit to right field and Carbone doubled down the left field line to score Burke. An inning later, Perez stroked a double to the gap in right-center to make it a 7-0 ballgame.

The Golden Knights got three more in the sixth via a two-run double by Carbone and an RBI base through the left side off the bat of junior center fielder Ryan Price. They then took advantage of an AIC error in the ninth.

The two teams are scheduled to conclude their two-game series Thursday with a 3:30 pm start at Bleecker Stadium.
