LANTANA, FL – The College of Saint Rose baseball team fell 23-5 at the hands of a red hot Nova Southeastern club during the third day of its annual Florida spring break trip this evening. The Sharks (20-2), ranked #8 in the most recent College Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division II poll, jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings and never looked back to run their win streak to 12 games.
Freshman second baseman Michael Carbone went 3-for-5 and scored a run, while sophomore left fielder Garret Keenan and freshman shortstop Nick Alexandrovich had two hits apiece. Also, junior right-hander Nate Ward worked a scoreless sixth, seventh and eight innings by fanning five and scattering three hits, while sophomore right fielder Angel Nunez doubled to extend his hitting streak to six games.
Junior center fielder J.D. Martinez and senior designated hitter Pete Simon both had three-run homers to lead the Nova Southeastern attack.
The Golden Knights continue their spring break trip tomorrow with a 10:00 am doubleheader versus Dowling College in Boca Raton. Meanwhile, Nova Southeastern has a 6:00 pm date with Bloomfield tomorrow in Fort Lauderdale.
