SAINT ROSE UPENDS PACE IN 12 INNINGS

Junior right fielder Jake Perez had a pair of doubles in today's 3-2, 12 inning victory at Pace University.
PLEASANTVILLE, NY – The College of Saint Rose scored the winning run on a passed ball in the 12th inning en route to a 3-2 Northeast-10 Conference victory at Pace University this afternoon. In the process, the Golden Knights (6-12/2-3 NE-10) snapped the Setters three-game win streak.

Sophomore third baseman Grant Smith led off the 12th with a base hit and then moved to second on a sacrifice by senior first baseman Dominick Iaconis. A wild pitch and an intentional walk to freshman designated hitter Daniel Marshall put runners at the corners, which allowed the Pace (8-12-1/3-3 NE-10) miscue to be costly as Smith trotted home.

Saint Rose nearly returned the favor in the home half of the 12th, as a hit-batsmen and a wild pitch put the tying run on third. However, junior left-hander Jake Kozar induced an infield popup to collect his first save of the year.

Junior right fielder Jake Perez went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and a run scored; and Smith wound up 2-for-3 with a walk to lead the Golden Knights. Junior left fielder Ryan Price doubled in three at-bats to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. On the mound, sophomore left-hander David Batchelder allowed three hits and one earned run throughout 6.0 innings of work. Sophomore right-hander Doug Dulin hurled 3.0 innings of one-hit ball, while junior southpaw Craig Borgen allowed two hits in 2.0 innings of work to run his record to 2-0 on the season.

Junior center fielder Chris Spatkowski went 2-for-4 to lead the Setters, while senior right-hander Eric Brown and sophomore left-hander Michael Franza allowed only a pair of hits throughout a collective 6.0 innings of relief duty.

Saint Rose rallied from a 1-0 deficit with a pair of runs in the sixth when Perez drove home sophomore center fielder Angel Nunez with a two-out RBI double, before coming around to score himself on a wild pitch. In the bottom half of the frame, Pace got back a run on an RBI base hit by junior first baseman Vinny Dammann. However more importantly, Price threw out the potential go-ahead run at the plate to keep the scored tied 2-2.

The Golden Knights and Setters are scheduled to conclude their three-game season series with a noon doubleheader tomorrow at Bleecker Stadium.
