SAINT ROSE UPENDS BENTLEY 8-6 IN 11 INNINGS

Junior left fielder Ryan Price stroked a two out, RBI base hit in the 11th that scored the winning run in today's 8-6 victory at Bentley.
WALTHAM, MA – Junior left fielder Ryan Price and sophomore center fielder Angel Nunez stroked back-to-back, two out RBI singles in the top of the 11th to lead The College Saint Rose to an 8-6 victory at Northeast-10 Conference rival Bentley University this afternoon.

Freshman shortstop Nick Alexandrovich put the Golden Knights (5-11/1-2 NE-10) in business with a one out base hit to left. He then advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt. One batter later, Price bounced one up the middle to score Alexandrovich with what proved to be the winning run. Nunez then belted a shot to center that scored Price from second base.

Bentley threatened in the home half when it brought the potential winning run to the plate, but senior right-hander Daniel O'Leary escaped the jam by inducing to fly ball to center that afforded him his second save of the year.

Saint Rose took a 6-2 lead into the ninth when the Falcons (9-8/0-1 NE-10) pushed across four runs to knot everything 6-6. A bases loaded infield hit, a fielder's choice and an error made it a one-run ballgame, until sophomore center fielder James Roche put one through the left side that scored junior catcher Mike DeCoste with the tying run.

The Golden Knights got out to an early lead when they produced a pair of runs in the fourth after sophomore third baseman Grant Smith lined a two-run single down the left field line. They then went up 3-2 in the fifth when sophomore right fielder Garret Keenan smacked a leadoff double and scored on a base hit off the bat of Alexandrovich. In the seventh, an RBI base hit by Price and a run producing double from Nunez made it 5-2 Saint Rose. The Golden Knights then pulled off a double steal in the eighth to go ahead 6-2.

Nunez finished 4-for-6 with two RBI and a pair of doubles to lead the Saint Rose attack. Price wound up 2-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored to run his hit streak to eight games, while Alexandrovich was 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored. Freshman second baseman Michael Carbone had his nine-game hit streak snapped, but he sacrificed successfully on two occasions to help the Golden Knights cause.

Senior right-hander Jeremiah St. Louis allowed two runs on five hits and fanned six in 7.0 innings of work.

As for Bentley, Roche finished 3-for-5 with a run scored while junior right fielder Brett Damato, junior second baseman Charlie Pagliaurulo, and freshman left fielder Mark Lane had two hits each.

The Golden Knights and Falcons are scheduled to conclude their two-game season series with a 1:00 pm date tomorrow at Bleecker Stadium. It will mark the 2009 home opener for Saint Rose.
