18 Golden Knights Return in 2021

ALBANY, N.Y. – Familiar faces dot The College of Saint Rose 2021 softball roster. Head Coach Abby Arceneaux, now in her eighth season, has 18 players, including all 10 starters, back this spring.

"We couldn't be more excited to get back on the field after more than a year of not being able to put on a Golden Knights uniform," said Arceneaux. "I'm grateful we have all of our team back and that the seniors from last year get the opportunity to finish their careers the right way."

Infielder Shannon Moore and right-hander Kylee Warner return for their fifth collegiate seasons.

Moore topped the Golden Knights, which played 12 games in Florida before the 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with a .394 average (13-for-33). She was second on the team with 10 RBI and led the team with four doubles. Warner made nine appearances in the circle, going 1-2 with a 2.58 ERA.

"Shannon provides pop and consistency to our lineup and looks to pick up right where she left off last season," said Arceneaux. "Kylee comes back as the veteran of our young bullpen. We expect her to be one of our key contributors on the mound once again."

Infielders Ryane Brush and Savanna Liverio-Tyler, and outfielder Alissa Folts make up the senior class. The trio has been counted on by Arceneaux up the middle and at the "hot corner" throughout their careers.

"Our senior class creates a solid left side of the infield between Ryane and Savi, and Alissa is a tremendous pure outfielder. We want nothing more than for them to finish their competitive careers having their best seasons yet," said Arceneaux.

Brush, Moore and Liverio should fill the heart of the Saint Rose batting order. Brush, who was named a Northeast-10 Conference All-League pick in 2018, batted .355 (11-for-31), with two homers and eight RBI last spring. Liverio-Tyler topped the NE10 with five homers and slugged .824, good for second in the conference. She hit .324 (11-for-34) with 11 runs scored and a team-high 11 RBI.

The trio will look to drive in sophomore infielder/outfielder Madison Chandler. The lone Golden Knight to appear in all 12 games last year hit .314 (13-for-41) with 14 runs scored and seven RBI. She led the conference with 1.17 runs per game and was second behind Liverio with four homers.

Chandler is part of a group of sophomores that should play a big part of the team this spring.

"The sophomores are an extremely motivated class of athletes," said Arceneaux. "They got a small taste of college softball last year and are eager to get back out there and contribute right away. Maddy, right-hander Alysa Houghtaling, outfielder Cianna Phillips and infielder/outfielder McKenna Ryan saw substantial time last year as freshmen and all eight of them have the potential to see action this year."

Junior right-hander Samantha Allen, sophomore right-hander Sophia Schaub and Hougtaling return to join Warner on the pitching staff.

"Our pitching staff has worked hard to better themselves on the mound. We have a nice mix of two veterans and four younger ladies that have been training well together to make their movement pitches better while learning to compete in the zone. They complement each other well and have shown much grit since the shortened 2020 season," said Arceneaux.

Freshmen right-handers Alexandra Deeter and Margaret Kelley joined the program in 2021. The duo will add to Arceneaux's options in the circle.

"Alex and Maggie have come in with a mindset that they want to make the starting lineup right away," said Arceneaux. "Maggie had a tremendous high school career as a pitcher and Alex helped her team on the mound and offensively."

Saint Rose has a 24-game conference-only slate on tap this spring. The season is scheduled to begin Saturday, March 20 at American International, while the home opener is set for Saturday, April 10 when Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne visits Cathy Haker Field, located at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
