GOLDEN KNIGHTS OPEN FRIDAY IN FLORIDA

ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose softball team is looking forward to what's in store for the 2020 season.  The Golden Knights open with a dozen games at THE Spring Games from Friday, February 28 – Thursday, March 5.

"This year's team is a young, talented group with only two seniors on the roster," said Head Coach Abby Arceneaux. "We are eager to get back on the field after a successful fall season and have been putting in work to prepare for a competitive Florida schedule and always tough Northeast-10 Conference slate."

Back for their final campaigns are infielder Shannon Moore and right-hander Kylee Warner. Moore started 36 games last season, mostly at second base, while Warner logged 81.2 innings across 20 appearances in the circle. The duo will be leaned upon by Arceneaux to help lead the underclassmen.

"Both Shannon and Kylee will play important roles for us this season," said Arceneaux. "We hope to end their collegiate careers with both individual and team successes."

Infielders Ryane Brush and Savanna Liverio, outfielder Alissa Folts and catcher Liz D'Agostino make up a junior class that provides a strong veteran presence at key positions.

Brush, a second-team All-NE10 pick in 2018, hit .318 with a team-high five homers last season. Liverio batted. 290 and topped the Golden Knights with 24 RBI. The duo should fill the heart of the Saint Rose lineup. Folts has been the starting centerfielder the past two seasons, while D'Agostino has earned increased playing time behind the plate each spring.

"Our junior class as a whole is one of the most talented groups I have coached," said Arceneaux. "If all four can build upon their previous two seasons it will make putting together the lineup pretty easy."

Sophomore right-hander Samantha Allen also returns. She tallied a team-high seven wins and fanned 77 batters across 110.0 innings as a rookie.  The righty completed 11 of her 20 starts last spring.

"Sammi is hungry to take the mound this season," said Arceneaux. "She is a tireless worker and has really helped with our new pitchers"

Eight freshmen have joined the program this spring. Arceneaux has high expectations for the group, that is made up of: infielder/outfielders McKenna Ryan, Colette Cohen, and Madison Chandler, catcher Emmie Gilmore, outfielder Ciana Phillips, right-hander/infielder Sophia Schaub, catcher/outfielder Julia Rupinski, and right-hander/infielder Alysa Houghtaling.

"Our class from the Capital District has exceeded expectations since coming to campus," said Arceneaux. "They have speed, athleticism, talent and a no-fear demeanor. Many will be looked upon to contribute immediately."

Saint Rose, picked to finish ninth in the NE10 preseason coaches poll, has 14 home games scheduled in 2020. The home opener is slated for Saturday, March 28 when Southern New Hampshire visits Cathy Haker Field, located at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
