WALTHAM, MA–The College of Saint Rose scored two runs in the seventh inning during game-two of a doubleheader at
Northeast-10 Conference rival Bentley to earn a 2-0 victory today. The host Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead of their own in game-one and hung on by a score of 4-3.
Senior right fielder
Val Nelson went 2-for-3 in the nightcap, highlighted by an RBI double that scored sophomore pinch-runner
Meghan Reynolds.Freshman third baseman
Carly Wood provided some insurance with a sacrifice fly.
Freshman right-hander
Renee Vaiano was outstanding going the distance for the Golden Knights (7-10/3-3 NE-10). She surrendered three hits, struck out four and did not walk a single batter on the way to her second collegiate win.
A solo shot by senior first baseman
Olivia Reeves in game-one tied it at 2-2 in the top of the fifth inning. It was her team-high fourth home run of the season.
After Bentley responded with two runs in the home half of the fifth, junior catcher
Alexis Williams added a RBI double in the seventh to cut the deficit to one. Then junior second baseman
Marisa Bird singled, allowing Williams to advance to third base. However, the Golden Knights could not get the tying run home.
Looking ahead, both squads have NE-10 twin-bills tomorrow. The Golden Knights have a 12:30 pm date at Stonehill in Easton, MA; while the Falcons will host Le Moyne.
