Box Score
ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose held
Upstate Challenge and
Northeast-10 Conference rival Le Moyne to three hits en route to a 6-1 victory this afternoon at
Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
Sophomore right-hander
Coby Schwartz allowed just one run on two hits throughout 7.0 innings of work to improve to 4-1 on the year. Senior right-hander
Ryan Harper and junior right-hander
Chris Gould then worked the final two frames to close it out.
Senior designated hitter
Scott Hladik and junior left fielder
Nick Venier each drove in a pair of runs to lead the Golden Knights (7-13/3-0 NE-10) attack. In the process, Venier extended his hit streak to 15 games.
Hladik put Saint Rose up 2-0 in the third when he drove a double to the gap in right-center that brought around junior second baseman
Ryan Hooker and sophomore center fielder
Derek Reed.
Saint Rose then broke it open with four runs an inning later. Freshman shortstop
Mike Flynn drew a bases loaded walk, Reed brought in another via an RBI groundout and then Venier scored two more with a single to make it 6-0 Golden Knights. Le Moyne (6-14/0-1 NE-10) spoiled the shutout with a run in the seventh.
Junior third baseman Max Nagelsmith, out of CBA, made the most of his homecoming by going 2-for-3 for the Dolphins.
Looking ahead, both squads have NE-10 crossover doubleheaders this Saturday and Sunday. Each school will visit Merrimack and Assumption on subsequent days.
