SAINT ROSE HOSTS LE MOYNE FOR 2014 HOME OPENER

The Golden Knights take on Le Moyne in their 2014 home opener today.

Upstate Challenge: The College of Saint Rose holds a 6.0-4.0 advantage in the 2013-14 Upstate Challenge Standings versus Le Moyne. The Golden Knights have scored points in women's soccer, women's volleyball, women's swimming and diving, and men's and women's cross country; and one-half point in both men's and women's basketball. The Dolphins earned points in men's soccer, men's golf and men's swimming and diving, and one-half point in both men's and women's basketball.
 
Last Time Out: Saint Rose answered a five-run fifth inning by host American International by scoring five runs itself an inning later en route to yesterday's 10-8 Northeast-10 Conference victory. Senior right fielder Scott Hladik belted a three-run homer to spearhead the sixth and sophomore southpaw Joe Pokrentowski hurled 3.0 innings of shutout, two-hit ball in relief to lock down the victory for the Golden Knights. Junior left fielder Nick Venier went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored, while sophomore catcher Patrick Griffin had a pair of hits with a double to help pace the attack.
 
Scouting Saint Rose: Venier has now hit safely in 14 consecutive games…Junior right-hander Chris Gould has allowed only two earned runs throughout 11.1 innings of work that span nine appearances…The Golden Knights pace the NE-10 with 11 home runs, which is one more than their total from a year ago…They are also fourth in the league with 46 stolen bases.
 
Scouting Le Moyne: The Dolphins are returning to the diamond for the first time in two weeks…Le Moyne snapped a six-game skid with a split against Bridgeport the last time it took the field…Sophomore infielder Pat Wright leads the team with a .532 slugging percentage and a .403 on-base percentage…Freshman right-hander Ryan O'Kane is holding opposing hitters to a .235 batting average.
 
Up Next: Both squads have NE-10 crossover doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. Each school will visit Merrimack and Assumption on subsequent days.
