SPRINGFIELD, MA–The College of Saint Rose fell behind in both games of a doubleheader today at Northeast-10 Conference rival American International, but the Golden Knights rallied in each contest, 5-4 and 7-3, to take a pair on the road.

The Yellow Jackets (10-23/7-14 NE-10) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game-one. Senior catcher Katie Merrill and junior designated player Lauren Tosi each posted an RBI to give American International the early advantage.

After exchanging runs in the second frame, the Golden Knights (11-20/7-12 NE-10) recorded the final four tallies of the game. Saint Rose tied it 4-4 in the fifth after a two-run single by senior first baseman Olivia Reeves and an RBI single from freshman third baseman Carly Wood.

Sophomore shortstop Danielle Brusca capped off a 3-for-4 effort with an RBI single to center field in the sixth that scored sophomore pinch-runner Rachel Waselski.

Sophomore right-hander Nicole Wickham retired the side in order in the seventh to preserve her fifth win of the season. In 6.2 innings, she only allowed one run on six hits and struck out four.

American International took a 3-1 lead in the fifth frame of game-two with RBI singles from freshman center fielder Keymell Cartwright and senior shortstop Haley Marchand and a sacrifice fly off the bat of freshman first baseman Yamilette Lopez-Perez.

However, the Golden Knights completely turned things around in the seventh with a six-run inning. Back-to-back singles by Brusca and senior center fielder Amber Loussedes set the stage for Reeves and Wood to deliver RBI singles to knot it at three runs apiece. Junior left fielder Kari Bird put Saint Rose on top for good with a two-run triple to right field. Then a two-RBI single by junior designated player Anna Carey provided some cushion.

Freshman right-hander Renee Vaiano improved to 5-7 on the year after throwing 2.1 innings in relief without allowing a run.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights travel to Long Island on Friday to play Adelphi, while the Yellow Jackets battle New Haven in Connecticut this weekend.
