Box Score
SPRINGFIELD, MA–The College of Saint Rose answered a five-run fifth inning by host American International by scoring five runs itself an inning later en route to a 10-8
Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division victory this afternoon.
Senior right fielder
Scott Hladik belted a three-run homer to spearhead the sixth and sophomore southpaw
Joe Pokrentowski hurled 3.0 innings of shutout, two-hit ball in relief to lock down the victory for the Golden Knights (6-13/2-0 NE-10).
Junior left fielder
Nick Venier went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored to extend his hitting streak to 14 games, while sophomore catcher
Patrick Griffin had a pair of hits with a double to help pace the attack.
The game swung both ways early on. Saint Rose went up 1-0 in the first and scored three times to take a 4-2 lead in the fifth, but the Yellow Jackets sent nine batters to the plate in the home half of the fifth that helped them regain the lead, 7-4.
However, a leadoff base hit by Griffin, a double by junior second baseman
Ryan Hooker, an AIC error and an RBI single from sophomore center fielder
Derek Reed made it 7-6, before Hladik delivered the game's biggest blow. Pokrentowski then came on to cool off the American International (6-11/1-1 NE-10) bats.
Senior center fielder Dan Asselin and sophomore left fielder Tyler Geffert had three hits each to pace the Yellow Jackets.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose is scheduled to play its 2014 home opener tomorrow when conference and
Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne visits
Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets also have a 3:30 pm home conference tilt tomorrow as Assumption makes the trek west from Worcester on the Mass Pike.
