ALBANY- Junior designated player
Anna Carey delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the tenth of the game-two doubleheader to propel The College of Saint Rose to a wild 7-6 win against
Northeast-10 Conference rival New Haven. The visiting Chargers upended the Golden Knights in game-one by a score of 3-1 in eight innings at
Cathy Haker Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. With the game tied 2-2 going into the seventh, the Chargers (25-12/17-8 NE-10) took the lead with four unearned runs. Sophomore leftfielder Jen Palase brought home two runs in the frame with a double down the left field line.
The Golden Knights (9-20/ 5-12 NE-10) responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh, highlighted by a three-run home run over the right field fence by senior centerfielder
Amber Loussedes. Senior first baseman
Olivia Reeves tied the game at six after scoring from third base on a passed ball.
Neither team scored again until the tenth when Carey's base-hit pushed sophomore pinch-runner
Meghan Reynolds across home plate.
Freshman third baseman
Carly Wood went 4-for-4 with an RBI to help the Golden Knights cause. Meanwhile, senior third baseman Lindsey Couturier drove in a run for the Chargers with a 3-for-4 effort.
Freshman right-hander
Renee Vaiano picked up her fourth win of the season. In 3.0 innings of relief, she did not allow a run and struck out one batter.
After falling behind 1-0 early in game-one, sophomore shortstop
Danielle Brusca came through with an RBI single to right field in the third for her second hit of the game.
However, the Chargers scored a couple of runs on a two-run home run by junior first baseman Jess Spivey to step out in front 3-1 in the eighth frame.
Junior second baseman
Marisa Bird singled to kick-start the bottom of the eighth for the Golden Knights, but the rally fell short.
Sophomore right-hander Nicole King notched the game-one victory for New Haven, to go 13-6 on the year. In 8.0 innings, she scattered three hits and one run while striking out six.
In addition to two thrilling extra-inning games, it was also Senior Day. The Golden Knights honored Loussedes, Reeves, and senior rightfielder
Val Nelson following today's first contest.
Looking ahead, both teams take to the road on Tuesday for doubleheaders. Saint Rose travels to Springfield to take on American International, while New Haven heads to Long Island to take on Adelphi.
