ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose tied the game in the bottom of the fifth today against
Northeast-10 Conference rival New Haven, but the visiting Chargers scored an unearned run in the eighth and hung on for a 2-1 extra-inning win.
Senior catcher Brooke Fisher hit a single in the eighth frame to bring in the go-ahead and eventual winning run for New Haven (24-11/16-7 NE-10). Sophomore right-hander Victoria Cabral picked up her twelfth victory of the season. In 8.0 innings, she allowed one run on five hits with six walks and seven strikeouts.
Junior second baseman
Marisa Bird went 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead the Golden Knights (8-19/4-11 NE-10) offense. Additionally, sophomore shortstop
Danielle Brusca, senior center fielder
Amber Loussedes, and junior designated player
Anna Carey each collected a base hit. Meanwhile, senior right fielder
Val Nelson drew three walks to reach base in three-of-four plate appearances.
Sophomore right-hander
Nicole Wickham pitched 8.0 innings for Saint Rose. She surrendered two runs, one earned, on five hits. She also walked one batter and fanned three in defeat.
The three-game series between the Golden Knights and Chargers resumes tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 12:30 pm.
