Box Score

WINTER PARK, FL–The College of Saint Rose pounded out 13 hits and broke open the ballgame with three runs throughout the final two innings to win its third straight behind a 6-1 victory versus Saint Anselm at the 66th Annual Rollins College Baseball Week today.

Three pitchers combined on a four-hitter for the Golden Knights (3-8). Sophomore right-hander Phillip Zdanowski allowed a run on two hits in 5.0 innings of work to collect the win. Sophomore lefty Anthony Romito then came out of the bullpen to work out of a two-on, none out jam in the sixth; before fellow sophomore southpaw Joe Pokrentowski tossed 3.0 innings of two-hit ball to close it out.

Junior first baseman Zac Bellinger and junior designated hitter Nick Venier both went 2-for-5 to extend their hitting streaks to six games. Sophomore third baseman Chad Adams and sophomore catcher Patrick Griffin each finished with a pair of hits and an RBI, while freshman shortstop Mike Flynn went 2-for-3 with a triple.

Saint Anselm (2-5) took a 1-0 lead in the first on an infield hit. Saint Rose then went ahead for good two innings later when Flynn lined a leadoff triple down the left field line and then scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore centerfielder Derek Reed. Four batters later, senior right fielder Brian Maynard belted a base hit to center that brought across senior left fielder Scott Hladik with what held up as the winning run.

The Golden Knights then made it 3-1 in the sixth when Griffin slapped a single through the left side that scored Bellinger. An RBI base hit by junior second baseman Ryan Hooker and a Saint Anselm throwing error accounted for two more runs in the eighth. An inning later, Adams smacked a base hit up the middle that scored Venier with the game's final run.

Senior center fielder Dan Lagasse, junior first baseman Mike Hayden, junior left fielder Joe Morin, and freshman third baseman Nick Bragole had one hit each for the Hawks.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns to action Thursday with a 2:30 pm game versus Molloy in Boca Raton. Meanwhile, the Hawks have a 6:00 pm date at Saint Leo tomorrow.
