Box Score

WINTER PARK, FL–The College of Saint Rose rallied from a 1-0 first inning deficit by pushing across three runs in the second and another in the third to upend Concordia 4-1 today at the 66th Annual Rollins College Baseball Week.

Freshman shortstop Mike Flynn went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored to lead the Golden Knights (1-0) offense. Also, junior designated hitter Nick Venier stroked a two-run double in the second and junior first baseman Zac Bellinger belted a solo shot over the right field fence in the third.

On the hill, sophomore right-hander Coby Schwartz allowed a run on seven hits with four strikeouts to collect his first career win. Junior right-hander Chris Gould then tossed 2.0 innings of shutout ball for the save.

As for the Clippers (0-1), junior third baseman Mike Manganiello went 3-for-4 with a double.

After Concordia went up 1-0, Flynn smacked a bases loaded single to right and two batters later Venier afforded Schwartz some breathing room. The Clippers eventually put a runner on third with one out in the fourth and had two on in the seventh, but Schwartz worked his way out of trouble each time.

Looking ahead, both teams continue their southern swing tomorrow with games against the University of the Sciences. The Golden Knights will meet the Devils at 2:30 pm, while the Clippers will face them at 11:00 am.
