CLERMONT, FL-A new year for The College of Saint Rose opened on a high note as the Golden Knights (1-0) defeated the University of the Sciences 8-0 in six innings in the opening game at the NTC games earlier today.

Saint Rose was impressive on both sides of the game. Sophomore pitcher
Nicole Wickham threw a one-hit shutout in the pitcher's circle while classmate infielder
Marisa Bird notched four RBI. Meanwhile, senior outfielder
Amber Loussedes connected for three hits with a like number of runs and stolen bases.

Freshman outfielder Barbara Barron collected the lone hit for the Devils (0-1) in her collegiate debut.

The Golden Knights (1-0) pushed four runs across in the third inning. Loussedes kicked off the scoring with an RBI triple, scoring senior designated player
Olivia Reeves. Sophomore catcher
Zoe Dubois followed with an RBI single while Marisa Bird knocked in two with a single.

Loussedes stole home in the fourth and sophomore infielder
Taylor Snyder belted an RBI double in the fifth to make in 6-0 in favor of Saint Rose. Marisa Bird finished the game in the bottom of the sixth with her second, two-RBI single of the day.

Wickham concluded her outing with six strikeouts.

The Golden Knights return to the diamond tomorrow in Clermont to face Lock Haven at 9:00 am and at 11:00 am.
