TEN HIT ATTACK NOT ENOUGH FOR GOLDEN KNIGHTS

SUTHERLAND, VA–The College of Saint Rose pounded out 10 hits and brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth, but Mansfield (1-0) was able to hold on to upend the Golden Knights 6-3 earlier today.

Senior right fielder Scott Hladik went 2-for-4 with a home run, while sophomore center fielder Derek Reed and sophomore catcher Patrick Griffin also had two hits apiece for Saint Rose (0-4). Furthermore, junior left fielder Nick Venier belted an RBI double in the fifth.

As for the Mountaineers, junior right fielder Westyn Baylor was a double shy of hitting for the cycle.

Mansfield broke open a 3-1 game by pushing across three runs in the seventh thanks to a Baylor three-run homer. Saint Rose subsequently got one back in the eighth and another in the ninth. Reed had an RBI base hit in the eighth and Hladik homered in the ninth to account for the Golden Knights final two runs.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose closes out its weekend stay in Virginia with a pair of games tomorrow. The Golden Knights will meet Wilmington at 10:00 am and then West Chester at 1:00 pm. Meanwhile, the Mountaineers are scheduled to face Mercyhurst and Post University on Sunday.
