COLCHESTER, VT – This weekend's trip concluded with two wins, 4-2 and 2-1, at Saint Michael's for The College of Saint Rose earlier today during a
Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader that witnessed both solid pitching and balanced hitting on a windy day at Doc Jacobs Field.
The Golden Knights (7-16/5-8 NE-10) benefitted from two starting pitchers throwing complete games. Freshman right-hander
Nicole Wickham earned her fifth win of the season behind five strikeouts while sophomore right-hander
Anna Carey allowed just three hits and one earned run in the nightcap. Sophomore catcher
Alexis Williams added a home run to the offense.
Sophomore catcher Sarah Murray used a double and a home run, both in game two, to lead the Saint Michael's (0-22/0-12 NE-10) offense. Freshman infielder Judi Barcavage contributed two hits in the first game.
Saint Rose put the first runs on the board in the third inning of the opener as sophomore outfielder
Kari Bird picked up an RBI single with two runners on and moved junior outfielder
Amber Loussedes to third base. Loussedes then stole home during the next at bat to give the Golden Knights a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth inning with the bases loaded, freshman infielder
Taylor Snyder and junior outfielder
Val Nelson scored on an infield throwing error to push the advantage to 4-0. Saint Michael's then scored two runs on five hits combined in the fifth and sixth innings. However, Wickham retired the side in order in the seventh to pick up the complete game victory.
Williams took credit for all two runs that Saint Rose needed in the second game with a home run to left center in the fourth inning, scoring Snyder in the process. Saint Michael's attempted another late rally as Murray homered to left-center in the bottom of the seventh with two outs. Carey quickly recovered to record the final out on a ground ball to second base.
The Golden Knights play the third of four straight doubleheaders on the road Wednesday in Worcester, MA as Assumption plays host for a 3:00pm conference divisional matchup. The Purple Knights are also on the road on Wednesday, traveling to NE-10 divisional rival Southern New Hampshire for a 4:00 pm twin-bill in Manchester.
