GOLDEN KNIGHTS TAKE OPENER TO SPLIT WTH ASSUMPTION

ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose won the opening of a Northeast-10 Conference Southweat Division doubleheader 7-6 in eight innings to gain a split with visiting Assumption today at Cathy Cummings Haker Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Greyhounds (7-13/4-4 NE-10) then took the nightcap 9-6.

Freshman first baseman Taylor Snyder lined a two out, RBI double to left that scored sophomore right fielder Marisa Bird with the winning run in the opener.

The Golden Knights (5-14/3-6 NE-10) previously scored five runs on four hits in the second inning to take a 5-1 lead before Assumption sophomore catcher Andrea Crowley belted a grand slam over the left field fence in the third that tied the game 5-5.

Saint Rose added another run in the fourth thanks to an RBI double by freshman shortstop Danielle Brusca, but a sixth inning two-out RBI base hit off the bat of senior second baseman Lauren Medeiros tied it 6-6 to set the stage for Snyder two innings later.

Brusca finished 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI while freshman right-hander Nicole Wickham allowed a run on only four hits throughout 5.1 innings of work to pick up here fourth win of the season for the Golden Knights. Crowley finished 2-for-4 for the Greyhounds.

In the finale, Saint Rose took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first via a two-run base hit by senior designated player Rachel Reed. However, Assumption tied it with two runs in the third and then pushed across four more runs in the fourth and another three in the fifth to break it open.

Freshman third baseman Rachel Waselski had a two-run base hit during a three-run seventh for Saint Rose. Meanwhile, Crowley and sophomore third baseman Jess DiPilato drove in a pair of runs each for Assumption.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights begin a weekend trip Saturday with a doubleheader at conference rival Saint Anselm. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm from Manchester, NH. Meanwhile, the Greyhounds return home tomorrow to face league foe Southern New Hampshire for a 3:00 pm doubleheader in Worcester, MA.
