ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose scored early and held off visiting #23 Adelphi to clinch a season-finale 2-1
Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Divisional victory earlier today at
Cathy Haker Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex during “Senior Day.”
For the second straight day, freshman right-hander
Nicole Wickham picked up the complete game victory for the Golden Knights (11-29-1/9-18 NE-10) by allowing just five hits and one run. Five different individuals picked up a hit to generate the Saint Rose offense.
Junior infielder Katie Andrews paced Adelphi (36-17/24-5 NE-10) with two hits and a run scored.
Four hits up the middle in the bottom of the first produced two runs for the Golden Knights as junior centerfielder
Amber Loussedes led off the game with a single while freshman infielder
Danielle Brusca and senior infielder
Rachel Reed drove in the runs with base hits.
The Panthers cut into the lead with a run in the fourth after back-to-back doubles by Andrews and senior infielder Jeanine Leo.
However, Wickham settled down throughout the final three frames by facing just 10 batters, one beyond the minimum, to close out the win.
Prior to the start of today's game, Reed was honored by the College for her dedication to the softball program with a brief ceremony.
The Golden Knights closed out the year by taking two of three from the Panthers, who will open up play at the NE-10 Championships this Tuesday.
