SPRINGFIELD, MA – The College of Saint Rose earned a doubleheader split at Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Divisional rival American International. The Golden Knights (9-28-1/7-17 NE-10) won the nightcap 1-0 after falling 5-4 in the opener.

Junior outfielders Olivia Reeves and Amber Loussedes each manufactured four hits on the day. Freshman right-hander Nicole Wickham pitched a combined 11.1 innings while striking out eight that included the second game victory.

Junior catcher Katie Merrill notched three hits for the Yellow Jackets (12-26/8-16 NE-10), including a home run. Junior left-hander Kelsey Malloy picked up the save in game one followed by pitching all seven innings of the second game and allowing just one run.

Freshman infielder Danielle Brusca and Reeves each drove in a run to put the Golden Knights up 2-0 in the first inning of the opener. The Yellow Jackets responded with a run in bottom half of the first followed by three runs in the second inning. Merrill led off the rally with a solo home run.

Senior infielder Rachel Reed brought Saint Rose within one run at 4-3 in the third with an RBI single. American International pushed a pivotal insurance run across in the fifth inning as Saint Rose cut the lead to a run once again as Reeves came around. Malloy earned her second save on the season by holding Saint Rose hitless in the bottom of the seventh with just 11 pitches.

The Golden Knights again created an early advantage in the nightcap as Reeves scored on a sacrifice bunt by freshman infielder Taylor Snyder in the top of the second inning.

That proved to be all the support Wickham needed as she did not surrender a hit until the sixth inning. Additionally, she pitched through two jams that included American International having runners on second and third in the bottom of the seventh with just one out. A strikeout and a pop produced the final two outs as Wickham earned the complete game shutout.

Saint Rose returns home this weekend for a three-game weekend series with divisional rival Adelphi to conclude the regular season. First pitch of the opener is scheduled for 12:30 pm on Saturday and will be streamed live on www.gogogldenknights.tv. The Yellow Jackets also finish the season with a home three-game series as they host Southern Connecticut State starting Saturday at 12:00 pm.
