Box Score
ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose manufactured just one hit as American International scored early to earn a
Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Divisional game 3-0 earlier today at
Cathy Haker Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
Junior infielder
Val Nelson generated the Golden Knights (8-24-1/6-13 NE-10) only hit of the day as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning. Freshman right-hander
Nicole Wickham pitched the final six innings and struck out five.
Graduate student outfielder Ashleigh St. Peter controlled three hits and a run scored for American International (10-21/7-12 NE-10) while junior shortstop Haley Marchand tallied two hits and a like number of RBI. However, the pitching performance senior right-hander Elizabeth Habib was the story as she surrendered just one hit with six strikeouts for the complete game shutout.
Marchand collected both of her RBI on the day with a single in the second inning that plated St. Peter and sophomore outfielder Lauren Tosi. Tosi drove in the third run in the next inning with a single up the middle.
Nelson attempted to start a rally in the seventh inning with a two-out single for Saint Rose. However, Habib produced a ground out to complete the game. Habib faced 24 batters in the process, just three above the minimum.
Both teams are scheduled for three-game road series this weekend. Saint Rose travels to West Haven, CT on Saturday to face New Haven at 12:00 pm to begin the series while American International faces Adelphi starting Friday at 4:00 pm in Garden City, NY.
