ALBANY – Southern Connecticut State claimed both ends of a doubleheader, 7-3 and 6-2, earlier today to sweep a three-game weekend series from The College of Saint Rose at Cathy Cummings Haker Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

Junior outfielder Amber Loussedes extended her hitting streak to 10 games with three hits including a double and a stolen base. Senior infielder Rachel Reed, junior outfielder Olivia Reeves, and freshman right-hander Nicole Wickham each tallied an RBI for the Golden Knights (8-21-1/6-11 NE-10).

A pair of seniors, infielder Kate Hoffman and outfielder Brittany Bucko, each produced three hits in the two games for the Owls (22-14/15-5 NE-10). Six other individuals manufactured two hits apiece. Both freshmen right-handers Yesenia Evaristo and Jessica Van Alphen threw complete games in the pitcher's circle.

A Reed solo home run in the second inning and a wild pitch in the third inning that scored Loussedes afforded the Golden Knights a 2-0 advantage in game one. However, Southern Connecticut State responded with six runs in the fourth and fifth innings collectively to go up 6-2. Senior infielder Alyssa Downs highlighted the rally with a two-run home run in the fifth.

Wickham then plated Reed to cut the Owls lead to 6-3 in the sixth before Southern Connecticut State pushed the margin back to four in the seventh. Van Alphen retired the Golden Knights in order in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory.

Southern Connecticut State's momentum then carried over into the second game as the Owls scored five runs in the first two innings. A double steal in the bottom of the third scored Wickham with the Golden Knights first run. Reeves cut the Owls advantage to 5-2 with a solo home run in the next inning. The long-ball trend continued as Southern Connecticut State junior infielder Kaley Marden capped the afternoon's scoring with a solo shot to left field.

Up ahead, both teams host single games on Tuesday with Saint Rose facing American International at 3:00 pm. Meanwhile, Southern Connecticut State welcomes Pace University for a 4:00 pm date in West Haven, CT.
