Box Score
ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose could only muster one hit throughout the first six innings and thus
Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State was able to walk away with a 7-0 victory in the opener of a three-game Southwest Division series this afternoon at
Cathy Cummings Haker Field.
Junior center fielder
Amber Loussedes, sophomore left fielder
Kari Bird, and freshman shortstop
Danielle Brusca accounted for the three Golden Knights (8-19-1/6-9 NE-10) singles on the day.
Meanwhile, Southern Connecticut State (20-14/13-5 NE-10) sophomore right-hander Kelsey Cockrill faced just two batters above the minimum while fanning eight and surrendering only one walk to improve to 11-6 on the year. Junior first baseman Kelsey Marden, senior third baseman Alyssa Downs, and junior left fielder Julie Muscarella all had two hits and an RBI to pace the Owls who won their fourth straight.
Southern Connecticut State took command by scoring four times in the fourth and then by adding a run in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. A Marden RBI base hit, a Downs RBI double, and a two-run double by senior catcher Stacy Pouliot dictated most of the damage in the decisive fourth.
Looking ahead, these two teams will conclude their weekend series tomorrow with a 12:30 pm doubleheader.
