WATERBURY, CT – The College of Saint Rose allowed a lead to slip away and fell short in a rally during a doubleheader defeat at non-conference foe Post earlier today, 4-3 and 2-1.
Junior outfielder
Olivia Reeves went 3-for-6 from the plate with two doubles and a RBI on the day. Junior outfielder
Amber Loussedes also tallied three hits and a RBI to go with a stolen base. Freshman right-hander
Ashlee Frazier struck out four in 6.2 innings in the opener while freshman right-hander
Nicole Wickham did not walk a batter to go along with three strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work in the second game.
Senior right-handers Johanna Rice and Ashley Cummings each earned a win as the two surrendered a combined two earned runs while Rice struck out five batters. Junior infielder Stephanie DeMartino and senior infielder Lianna May both tallied three hits on the afternoon.
After falling behind 2-0 earlier in the first game, the Golden Knights posted three runs in the top of the second inning. Reeves drove in the first run with a RBI double and later scored on a single by sophomore infielder
Marisa Bird. Bird touched home for the third run of the game as Loussedes laced a single to center field.
The next four innings went scoreless as Saint Rose looked to secure the opening game victory. However, May crossed home with the tying run followed by junior outfielder Jackie Bonamassa who scored the winning run on a wild pitch.
Post created a 2-0 lead in the middle stages of the second game as Rice scored in the fourth followed by a DeMartino solo home run in the sixth inning.
Saint Rose rallied in the top of the seventh as freshman infielder
Rachel Waselski led the inning off with a pinch-hit single followed by a Reeves double. Freshman infielder
Taylor Snyder scored Waselski on sacrifice fly to cut the Post lead to 2-1. The Golden Knights were unable to manufacture another run from there as the Eagles turned a game-edning double play.
Saint Rose returns home Saturday at 12:30 pm for a
Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Divisional doubleheader versus rival Southern Connecticut, part of a three-game weekend series. Meanwhile, the Eagles welcome Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rival Wilmington for 1:00 pm doubleheader Saturday.
