Box Score
LANTANA, FL – The College of Saint Rose bounced back from a 5-0, first inning deficit only to fall 9-6 to Dominican after the Chargers scored twice in the eighth and two more times in the ninth at the Palm Beach Challenge today.
Junior left fielder
Brian Maynard went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI to lead the Golden Knights (2-9). Senior catcher
A.J. Capone and freshman center fielder
Derek Reed had two hits apiece and senior third baseman
Kyle Charron drove in a pair of runs.
Meanwhile, freshman second baseman Kenny Harrell had three RBI on a pair of base hits and sophomore shortstop Oliver Christensen finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored for Dominican (1-4).
The Chargers pushed across five runs in the first on one hit and three Saint Rose errors. However, the Golden Knights got the bats going and cut their deficit to 5-3 in the second, before tying it 5-5 an inning later. Charron drove in two runs with a single to center and Capone belted a two out, base hit to right in the second. A Maynard RBI double and a Reed run scoring base hit tied it in the third.
The Golden Knights then went up 6-5 in the fourth when Charron reached on an error, went to second on a passed ball, advanced to third on a groundout and came across courtesy of another passed ball.
Saint Rose subsequently brought the tying run to the plate with none out in the ninth, but Dominican sophomore right-hander Peter Martinez induced a groundout and then got back-to-back strikeouts to end the ballgame.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights will close out their swing through Florida tomorrow with a 10:00 am game at Nova Southeastern in Fort Lauderdale. Meanwhile, Dominican has a 3:00 pm date next Wednesday, March 13, at Pace University in Pleasantville, NY.
