ALBANY – East Stroudsburg jumped out to quick leads in both seven-inning games to sweep a non-conference doubleheader in the home opener for The College of Saint Rose today at Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Warriors won the first game 6-1 and took the nightcap 15-8.

East Stroudsburg (10-6) pushed across a pair of runs in the first inning of game-one and after the Golden Knights (3-20) made it 2-1 in the home half, the Warriors scored twice in both the fourth and seventh.

Saint Rose threatened in the latter stages, but left two runners on in scoring position in the sixth and another in the seventh. Senior second baseman Kyle Charron and junior left fielder Scott Hladik both singled and pulled off a double steal, but East Stroudsburg junior right-hander Ryan Lubreski induced a groundball to get out of the jam.

In the seventh with two down, senior catcher A.J. Capone reached on an infield single, advanced to second on defensive indifference, and junior right fielder Brian Maynard reached on an error. However, Lubreski again got a much needed out to run his record to 3-0 on the year.

Hladik finished 2-for-4 for Saint Rose. Senior second baseman Joe Bennie, freshman third baseman Drew Hercik and junior designated hitter Mike Tenaglia had two hits apiece to lead the Warriors. Meanwhile, Lubreski allowed four hits and fanned four en route to the complete game victory.

In the finale, East Stroudsburg scored five times in the first, pushed across three runs in the second and tacked on five more in the third to go up 13-2 and put itself in the catbird seat.

Senior right fielder Eric Boyer went 3-for-6 with two runs scored to pace the Warriors 20-hit attack.

Sophomore first baseman Zac Bellinger finished 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored while freshman third baseman Chad Adams and freshman designated hitter Patrick Griffin belted two hits apiece for Saint Rose.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights get right back at it with a three-game Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Divisional Series that starts tomorrow against visiting Pace University. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm. Meanwhile the Warriors have a 1:00 pm home twin-bill Saturday versus University of the Sciences.
