The Plot: The College of Saint Rose begins the home portion of its 2013 slate today as the Golden Knights welcome UMass Lowell to Albany for a
Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader. Game one is set for 3:00 pm from
Cathy Cummings Haker Field.
2012 vs. UMass Lowell (0-2): The River Hawks claimed victories in both ends of a doubleheader, 6-4 and 11-7, on April 1 last season. Sophomore Courtney Lanfranchi managed to pick up both victories, starting game one and coming in relief in the nightcap. Senior infielder
Rachel Reed had three hits and drove in a pair of runs for Saint Rose on the day.
Last Time Out: Saint Rose dropped the opening game to Gannon 5-0 and then followed up with a dramatic 3-2 win versus Bridgeport on Friday, March 8. The two games marked the last day at the NTC Games in Clermont, FL. Sophomore designated player
Marisa Bird batted 3-for-3 in the opener that included a stolen base. Reed and freshman catcher
Zoe Dubois each added a single. Junior outfielder
Olivia Reeves sparked Saint Rose in the second game with a solo shot in the third inning. Junior infielder
Val Nelson belted a one-out double in the bottom of the seventh to set the table for Saint Rose. Sophomore outfielder
Kari Bird followed with a single. A stolen base coupled with a throwing error scored sophomore outfielder
Brittany Banks, who was pinch-running for Nelson, with the tying run. Bird then scored the game-winning run on a passed ball.
Saint Rose Diamond Notes: The Golden Knights opened the season with 10 games at the NTC Games. Reeves returns this season after a first-team All-Conference performance last year. Seven letterwinners departed from last year's squad, including five seniors. A like number of players enter the fold for Saint Rose in 2013. Saint Rose has experienced four postponements since returning from Florida.
UMass Lowell Diamond Notes: The River Hawks have suffered two seperate five-game losing streaks this season. Sophomore outfielder Ariana Darcy was named to the NE-10 All-Conference second-team as well as the All-Rookie team last year. Lanfranchi also earned a position on the All-Rookie squad. Darcy is currently fourth in the league with 13 RBI.
Up Next: Saint Rose returns to Haker Field tomorrow to face conference and
"Upstate Challenge" rival Le Moyne for a 3:00 pm twin-bill. Meanwhile, UMass Lowell remains on the road to face NE-10 foe Merrimack for a 3:00 pm single-game in North Andover, MA.
