GARDEN CITY, NY – The College of Saint Rose ran out to an 18-2 lead and survived a brief second half scare on the way to a 67-57 victory at Adelphi in a Northeast-10 Conference Championship first-round encounter tonight at the Center for Recreation and Sport. The Golden Knights (13-12) held the Panthers to 20.0 percent (6-for-30) shooting from the floor in the opening 20 minutes to take a 34-18 lead at the break.

Saint Rose will now head to Assumption for Sunday's 4:00 pm quarterfinal encounter in Worcester, MA.

Senior guard Andre Pope scored a season-high 23 points to lead the Golden Knights past Adelphi for the third time this year. Freshman forward Tyler Sayre tossed in 19, on 7-for-8 shooting from the floor, and grabbed eight rebounds while  junior guard Kareem Thomas finished with eight points, five boards and a pair of assists.

Senior guards Cliff Brown and Chris Ranglin scored 15 and 14 points respectively, and John Colarco, also a senior guard, added 13 to pace the Panthers (14-15), who were limited to 9.5 percent (2-for-21) shooting from the arc throughout the evening.

Saint Rose boosted its advantage to 19, 37-18, in the opening minute of the second half after Pope made a free throw and junior center Dominykas Milka drained a jumper. However, Adelphi responded with its lone push via an 18-6 jaunt to get to within seven, 43-36, with 11:20 to go after Simpson put back his own miss.

Sayre then scored six consecutive points by converting a jumper off a feed from junior guard Dan Mundweiler, by finishing a fastbreak that was initiated off a steal by junior forward Jin Hong and by canning a pair of free throws. The last play put the Golden Knights back up 13, 39-36, and Adelphi never got to within single digits the rest of the way.

Earlier this season, the Golden Knights dropped a pair of close games versus the second-seed Greyhounds. Saint Rose fell 63-58 two weeks ago at Assumption and suffered a 59-58 setback on Wednesday, December 5 in Albany.

Following Sunday, the conference semifinals are set for Wednesday, March 6 while the league championship game is slated for Saturday, March 9.
