Dominykas Milka as time expired to lift The College of Saint Rose to a 68-67 thrilling overtime victory at
Northeast-10 Conference rival Adelphi Wednesday night. Milka recorded his 14th “double-double” of the year with 16 points and a like number of rebounds to lead the Golden Knights. Dorgler also wound up with a “double-double” behind career-highs of 19 points and 10 boards. Junior guard
Kareem Thomas added 13 points. Senior forward Bradley Simpson led Adelphi with 14 point and 14 rebounds.
Last Meeting: Saint Rose suffered its first defeat of the 2012-13 campaign with a 64-59 setback at Pace back on Saturday, December 1. The Setters shot 75.0 percent (12-for-16) from the foul line, while the Golden Knights converted an uncharacteristic 54.5 percent. Ultimately, the Setters sealed it down the stretch. They scored six unanswered points during the final 38 seconds that allowed them to overcome a one point, 59-58, deficit after Saint Rose junior guard
Dan Mundweiler drained a 3-pointer from the left side of the key. Milka scored 19 of his 23 points in the second half and hauled in 18 rebounds before fouling out with 1:14 remaining to lead the Golden Knights. Also, senior guard
Andre Pope scored 13 points and handed out seven assists to go with three blocks and a pair of steals, while Mundweiler wound up with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists. Senior forward Keon Williams led the Setters with 23 points and nine rebounds.
The Series: Saint Rose leads the all-time series that dates back to the 1991-92 campaign by a 28-15 margin. The two former NYCAC rivals have split their last four meetings. The average margin of victory in those four contests is a mere 5.75 points.
Scouting Saint Rose (11-11/8-10 NE-10): Wednesday marked the third buzzer-beater win of the year for the Golden Knights. Pope hit a reverse layup in a 68-66 triumph at Le Moyne back on Tuesday, November 20 and Milka drained a 10-foot floater in a 56-54 victory versus Bridgeport at the Adelphi Holiday Tournament on Saturday, December 15. Pope moved into 15th place on the College's all-time scoring list with his nine points Wednesday night. He now has 1,281 for his career. He needs just nine more to move up two spots ahead of Garth Joseph (1994-97) who scored 1,289 points during his three years on Western Avenue. The Golden Knights have rebounded from five halftime deficits this season. Saint Rose owns a five, a two, and three-game win streak to account for 10 of its 11 victories. Wednesday's triumph snapped a four-game skid. Milka is the only player among the league's top-five in both scoring (17.4) and rebounding (11.6). He also owns four of the conference's top-six single-game rebounding performances. Milka furthermore leads the country in rebounding average and is second with his 14 “double-doubles”. The Golden Knights own a +2.3 turnover margin and are shooting 36.0 percent (54-for-150) from the arc throughout their 11 victories, but stand at -0.8 in TO margin and 26.7 percent (39-for-146) shooting from the arc throughout their 11 setbacks. They are furthermore outscoring their opponents 165-95 from the foul line during their 11 wins, but are being outscored 142-120 from the stripe throughout their 11 losses.
Scouting Pace: (9-13/6-12 NE-10): The Setters have dropped five straight although that includes a three point, 61-58, setback to Stonehill (2/2/13) and a four point, 61-57, loss at American International (2/6/13). Junior forward Jonathan Marceus and Williams account for 47.7 percent of the team's scoring production and 43.8 percent of its rebounding totals. Marceus is averaging 15.9 points, while Williams is scoring at a 15.3 point per-game clip. Williams is also pulling down 8.3 boards per-game. Marceus is hauling in 7.3 on a regular basis.
Coaches vs. Cancer: Proceeds from today's gate will go to three different charities as part of the College's annual "Coaches vs. Cancer" and "Pink Zone" celebrations in conjunction with the NABC and WBCA. The three charities are the
V. Foundation for Cancer Research,
Camp Bravehearts, and the
Susan G. Komen Foundation.
