Box Score

GARDEN CITY, NY-The College of Saint Rose allowed a 12 point, second half lead to slip away in an 81-78 loss to Philadelphia University during the second and final day at the Adelphi Holiday Tournament this afternoon.

The game featured eight ties and 13 lead changes. Both teams also shot extremely well. The Golden Knights (7-5) canned 54.1 percent (33-for-61) of their chances from the floor, while the Rams (8-4) converted 52.5 percent (28-for-53) of their opportunities. However, Philadelphia outscored Saint Rose 18-8 from the foul line.

Senior center Dominykas Milka recorded his 10th "double-double" this year with 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Golden Knights. He also handed out a team-high six assists. Sophomore forward Tyler Sayre tossed in 19 points while senior guard Kareem Thomas added 13.

The final deadlock came at 78-78 after Thomas converted a three-point play with eight seconds remaining. Thomas was fouled while getting to the rim and then converted the ensuing free throw. On the following possession, junior guard Nick Schlitzer finished a layup while being hit and then buried his free throw with two seconds left to account for the final margin. Sayre's desperation turnaround jumper at the buzzer was off the mark.

Saint Rose previously boosted a two point, 42-40, halftime lead to a dozen, 63- 51, with 11:14 to go after sophomore forward Chris Dorgler scored off his own steal and Thomas drained a jumper.

However, Philadelphia reeled off 13 unanswered points to go up 64-63 with 6:18 remaining. Schlitzer buried a 3-pointer and then sophomore forward Peter Alexis grabbed an offensive rebound, and scored while being fouled, before burying his free throw to close out the run.

Four more ties ensued before Philadelphia scored the game's last points.

Schlitzer went 9-for-13 from the field, including 4-for-6 from beyond the arc, on the way to a game-high 27 points for the Rams. Alexis finished with 22.

Looking ahead, both squads are off until the New Year. Saint Rose gets back to Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday, January 4 at Saint Anselm. Tip-off is set for 3:30 pm. Meanwhile, Philadelphia will host Saint Anselm on Thursday, January 2 at 2:00 pm.
