SAINT ROSE UPENDS AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL IN OVERTIME

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose scored the first five points in overtime to upend Northeast-10 Conference rival American International 78-74 this afternoon at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The game featured nine ties and 17 lead changes.

Sophomore forward Tyler Sayre scored 19 of his game-high 31 points after halftime to pace the Golden Knights (6-4/4-2 NE-10) who snapped a two-game skid and ran their home record to 5-0. Furthermore, senior center Dominykas Milka registered his eighth "double-double' this season behind 24 points and 17 rebounds. Senior guard Dan Mundweiler contributed 10 points and five assists, with only one turnover.

Saint Rose had a chance to win it in regulation, but senior guard Kareem Thomas had his 3-pointer from the left corner roll out with six ticks left. The Yellow Jackets then called a pair of timeouts, but could not get a shot off before the buzzer.

The Golden Knights were down four, 62-58, with 4:18 left in regulation, but twice cut it to one. Sayre then drained a 3-pointer from of the top of the key to make it 66-65 Golden Knights with 2:09 showing on the clock. However, American International (4-7/2-4 NE-10) senior guard Spencer Braithwaite countered with a trey of his own to afford the Yellow Jackets a two-point edge. Milka then hit a pair from the foul line with 1:02 to go.

Saint Rose subsequently got a stop at the other end to afford itself a chance to win it.

American International junior guard Bobby Harris went 8-for-12 from the floor en route to a team-high 21 points. He also handed out seven assists and came up with six steals. Senior forward Mark Ellis also had a great day from the floor. He went 8-for-9 on the way to 17 points. Braithwaite added 13 points and six assists.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose will take part in the Adelphi Holiday Classic on Long Island next weekend. The Golden Knights will meet Bloomfield on Saturday, December 21 at 1:30 pm and then face Philadelphia University in a season-opening rematch on Sunday, December 22 at 1:30 pm as well. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets will host Post University for a non-conference game next Friday, December 20, at 4:00 pm.
