Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State to take home a 66-60 victory against Saint Rose this past Saturday. Tyler Sayre was in double-figures for the eighth time in his young career with 13 points. As for Southern Connecticut State, senior forward Trevon Hamlet scored a game-high 17 points while junior guard Greg Langston and freshman guard Deshawn Murphy finished with 16 and 15 respectively.
Last Meeting | 74-64 Saint Anselm (1/3/12 at Saint Anselm): Saint Anselm shot a blistering 58.3 percent (7-for-12) from 3-point territory and outscored Saint Rose 23-7 from the foul line to upend the Golden Knights in Manchesster, NH. Pope led the way for the Golden Knights with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Milka recorded a “double-double” behind 15 points and a then career-high 12 rebounds throughout 25 minutes off the bench. Sophomore guard Rob Mabrey led a balanced Saint Anselm attack with 13 points, six rebounds and four assists. Jack Keough tossed in a dozen points, while Allen Harris and junior guard Dino Mallios finished with 11 each.
The Series (Saint Anselm 13-12): The two squads have split their last four meetings throughout the past three years with each team winning on its home floor.
Scouting Saint Rose | 7-4/4-3 NE-10: The Golden Knights are aiming to snap a two-game skid following Saturday's setback. They have held their 11 opponents to 62.2 points on 40.2 percent (252-for-627) shooting from the floor and have yet to surrender 70 points in a game. Saint Rose has trailed at the half in three of its last four games and has gone 2-2 during that stretch. Milka leads the team's scoring parade with 16.1 points per-game, the eighth best mark in the NE-10. He is furthermore second in the nation with a 12.8 rebounding average and is among only four players in the country with nine “double-doubles”, including seven straight. Pope is just 18 points shy of becoming one of a mere 20 players in Golden Knights annals to amass 1,200 career points.
Scouting Saint Anselm | 9-2/5-2 NE-10: Saint Anselm is off to a 9-2 start for the second time in three years. The Hawks have won seven of their last eight, including four straight. They are averaging a league-leading 83.6 points behind 9.3, 3-pointers per-game. Mallios is second in the nation with a 7.3 assists average. Mabrey leads four players in double-figures scoring. He is averaging 18.5 points and burying a league best 92.5 percent (37-for-40) of his chances from the free throw line. Freshman forward Mike McCahey is averaging 18.1 points and a team-high 7.7 rebounds while sophomore forward Chris Santo and Mallios are averaging 11.9 and 10.4 ppg respectively. Mabrey and McCahey are both among the league's top five scoring threats. The latter was also named the NE-10 Rookie of the Week on Monday.
