ALBANY – A pair of late scoring droughts allowed Southern Connecticut State to take home a 66-60 victory against The College of Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference encounter this afternoon at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.  The Golden Knights (7-4/4-3 NE-10) were also hurt by just six trips to the free throw line that allowed the Owls (7-3/4-3 NE-10) to outscore them 10-3 from the stripe despite the latter's mere 62.5 percent (10-for-16) shooting effort.

Junior center Dominykas Milka once again stood out for Saint Rose. Milka recorded his nation's leading ninth “double-double”, seventh straight, with 15 points and 14 rebounds to go with five assists and a pair of blocks. Senior guard Andre Pope finished with a team-high 16 points while freshman forward Tyler Sayre was in double-figures for the eighth time in his young career with 13 points.

As for Southern Connecticut State, senior forward Trevon Hamlet scored a game-high 17 points while junior guard Greg Langston and freshman guard Deshawn Murphy finished with 16 and 15 respectively.

The Golden Knights appeared to be in the driver's seat with a seven point, 51-44, cushion with 9:36 remaining, but Southern Connecticut State scored 16 unanswered points throughout the ensuing 3:39 to take nine point, 60-51, lead after Hamlet finished a traditional three-point play.

Saint Rose managed to make it a one possession game, 60-57, with 2:57 to go after junior forward James Wilson finished inside off a Milka feed. However, the Golden Knights came up empty on all but one of their final seven possessions and thus the Owls were able to improve to 4-1 on the road this season.

Prior to the game, longtime Saint Rose fan and supporter Jackie Birk was honored during a brief ceremony. Birk has helped direct the HEOP/ACCESS programs throughout the past 21 years and has been a fixture at Golden Knights athletics events.

Looking ahead, both teams have 7:30 pm conference dates on tap for Wednesday. The Golden Knights will host Saint Anselm in a game that will be streamed live on www.gogoldenknights.tv. Meanwhile, the Owls will entertain Franklin Pierce in New Haven.
