Box Score

ALBANY – LIU Post outscored The College of Saint Rose 12-6 in overtime to hand the Golden Knights a 77-71 non-conference setback this afternoon at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The game was close throughout with 13 ties and a like number of lead changes, but the Golden Knights (3-7) were outscored 17-10 at the foul line and outrebounded 29-17 on the offensive glass that allowed the Pioneers (8-2) to manufacture 20, second chance points.

Sophomore center Mariah Lesure scored a season-high 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds in 27 minutes off the bench to lead Saint Rose. Sophomore guard Gabie Polce was also in twin figures with 15 points, while senior forward Jessica Walton finished with eight points and a career-high five assists to go along with three blocks.

Senior forward Nicolette Marciniak did a bit of everything for the Pioneers. She wound up with 28 points, 19 rebounds, six assists and five blocks. Junior guard Alexis Peters added 11 points and seven steals to help LIU Post run its win streak to three games.

The Golden Knights bounced back from a six point, 58-52, deficit with 7:25 remaining in regulation by scoring three consecutive field goals that afforded the contest its 11th deadlock, 58-58, with 5:33 left. Lesure and junior guard Desiree Simmons both finished inside and senior forward Kimberly Van Bourgondien hit a jumper from the foul line that made it anyone's ballgame.

Three minutes later, a Lesure free throw followed by a pair from Walton made it 63-59 Golden Knights. However, Marciniak drained a jumper in the paint and then scored off a Saint Rose turnover to deadlock it once again, 63-63, with 1:33 left. After the Golden Knights came up empty on their ensuing possession, the two squads traded baskets during the final minute.

LIU Post did have a chance to win it regulation, but Polce came up with a block on a layup attempt by senior guard Ashley Caggiano in the waning moments to keep it a 65-65 affair.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns to Northeast-10 Conference action Saturday with a 1:30 pm home game versus Southern Connecticut State. Meanwhile, LIU Post is also home Saturday with a 1:30 date versus East Coast Conference rival Queens College.
