GOLDEN KNIGHTS WELCOME BENTLEY FOR KEY NE-10 ENCOUNTER

Freshman forward Tyler Sayre is averaging 10.5 points and 4.6 rebounds for the Golden Knights.

The Plot: The College of Saint Rose is aiming to snap a five game skid, while Bentley is aiming to extend its win streak to three. The Golden Knights are currently locked in a four-way tie for 10th place in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Falcons are tied for eighth with Adelphi. Only four games in the loss column separate second and 13th place in the league standings.

Last Time Out: Southern New Hampshire closed out the final seven minutes of the first half on a 21-9 run and outscored Saint Rose 15-4 from the foul line to upend the Golden Knights 71-55 Wednesday evening at the SNHU Fieldhouse. Junior center Dominykas Milka finished with 17 points, five rebounds and four assists; while junior guard Dan Mundweiler wound up with 11 points thanks in part to 3-for-6 shooting from the arc. Junior guard Mike Stys knocked down five of his eight 3-point attempts on the way to 20 points for the Penmen.

Last Meeting: Saint Rose rallied from an 18-point first half deficit, but Bentley proved its mettle down the stretch to hold on for a 64-60 victory last January 14 at the Dana Center in Waltham, MA. Sheldon Griffin led three players in double-figures for the Golden Knights with 15 points behind 4-of-6 shooting from the arc. Senior guard Andre Pope added 13 points and a season-high seven assists, while Milka recorded a “double-double” behind 11 points and 10 boards. The Falcons received a game-high 17 points from junior guard Jasper Grassa. Sam Leclerc tossed in 15 points as well.

The Series (Bentley 17-5):  Bentley leads the all-time series that dates back to the 1993-94 campaign by a 17-5 margin. The Falcons have now taken 13 straight from the Golden Knights. The last Saint Rose win came via a 91-79 victory back on January 22, 2004 in Waltham.

Scouting Saint Rose (7-7/4-6 NE-10): Saint Rose has trailed at the half in six of its last seven games and has gone 2-5 during that stretch. Milka leads the team's scoring parade with 17.0 points per-game, the sixth best mark in the NE-10. He is furthermore second in the nation with an 11.7 rebounding average and is also fourth nationally with nine “double-doubles”. Pope and freshman forward Tyler Sayre are also averaging double-figures in scoring. Pope is scoring at a 13.5 ppg clip, while Sayre is averaging 10.5 ppg. Pope and Mundweiler are averaging 3.3 and 2.9 assists respectively. Last Saturday, Pope became one of a mere 20 players in Golden Knights annals to amass 1,200 (1,210) career points. The Golden Knights have permitted their last three opponents to eclipse the 70 point barrier after not allowing any of their previous 11 foes to hit that mark. They have furthermore dropped five straight. A 48.7 field goal percentage (130-for-267) defense coupled with a -1.6 turnover ratio are two of the culprits during that span.

Scouting Bentley (7-7/5-5 NE-10): The Falcons have won two straight after dropping their previous three games. They are limiting opponents to 40.4 percent (350-for-866) shooting from the floor. Three freshmen are seeing at least 17.0 minutes of playing time. Grassa is averaging a team-leading 13.6 ppg, while freshman forward Tyler McFarland and sophomore guard J.P. Koury are averaging 13.4 ppg and 10.3 ppg respectively.

Looking ahead: The Golden Knights return home Wednesday to host conference rival Merrimack at 7:30 pm. That game will be streamed live on www.gogoldenknights.tv. There will also be a halftime ceremony recognizing the outstanding academic accomplishments of more than 100 Saint Rose student-athletes. Meanwhile, Bentley is back on the road Wednesday with a 7:30 pm conference date at Adelphi on Long Island.
