OWLS LIVE UP TO TOP-20 BILLING

Senior second baseman Kayla Kuilema finished 2-for-3 in the opener
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NEW HAVEN, CT – Host Southern Connecticut State University put up a combined 19 runs and coupled that with a pair of solid pitching performances to sweep a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader against The College of Saint Rose today at Pelz Field. The Owls took game one 8-3 and then took advantage of five Golden Knights' errors to walk away with an 11-0 triumph in game two.

Senior second baseman Kayla Kuilema continued her recent tear for the Golden Knights (10-21/6-12 NE-10) by going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a walk in the opener. Sophomore outfielder Val Nelson wound up 2-for-2 and scored a pair after entering the game in the fourth.

Saint Rose fell behind 3-0, but got one back in the third when sophomore outfielder Amber Loussedes scored on an RBI single from Kuilema. Southern Connecticut, which is ranked #18 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Poll, added three more in the bottom half and tacked on another in the fourth to put things out of reach.

Freshman Kelsey Cockrill improved to 12-2 in the circle for the Owls. Cockrill scattered four hits, all singles, and recorded four strikeouts over the distance. She also stranded 10 Saint Rose runners throughout the contest.

In the nightcap, senior Jayme Larson held the Golden Knights to just a pair of hits and faced only four batters over the minimum throughout 5.0 innings of work to lead Southern Connecticut. The Owls pushed across nine runs over the first two frames to provide plenty of support for Larson, who finished with four strikeouts and walked one.

Kuilema and sophomore outfielder Olivia Reeves picked up the lone base hits for Saint Rose in the contest. Reeves added to her league-leading walk total after receiving three intentional passes on the way to four walks in the opener.

The Golden Knights will look to end their three-game skid Wednesday afternoon when the head to Adelphi University for a 3:00 pm NE-10 twin-bill. Meanwhile, Southern Connecticut heads to Assumption College for a 3:00 pm start in Worcester, MA.
