PITCHING TANDEM ALLOWS SAINT ROSE TO SWEEP FRANKLIN PIERCE

Senior right-hander Courtney Galuski carried a no-hitter through 4.0 innings in game two
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 RINDGE, NH – Senior right-hander Courtney Galuski and senior southpaw Sarah Arbogast each had a role in both victories this afternoon as The College of Saint Rose swept a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Franklin Pierce University today. The Golden Knights took the opener 8-5 and then chalked up a 3-0 shutout in the nightcap.

Galuski tossed 4.0 innings of no-hit ball in game two and faced only two batters over the minimum along the way while recording three strikeouts on the way to her fourth win of the year. Arbogast came out of the bullpen in the fifth and retired 11 of the 13 batters she faced to help secure the sweep for Saint Rose (14-27/10-18 NE-10).

Senior second baseman Kayla Kuilema wound up 3-for-3 with a double, while sophomore outfielders Olivia Reeves and Val Nelson added two hits apiece for the Golden Knights.

Junior second baseman Megan Bird and senior shortstop Rachel Baxter picked up the lone base hits for the Ravens (9-28/7-21 NE-10).

Saint Rose gathered all the run support it needed when junior catcher Rachel Reed drove home a pair via a single to center field in the first. Kuilema added an RBI double that plated Reeves in the second to provide the final cushion.

In the opener, the Golden Knights manufactured three runs in the fifth to bust open a 4-4 ballgame. Senior third baseman Jessica Butterbrodt started things with an RBI single, Reed added a sacrifice fly and Nelson capped the surge with an RBI single of her own. Saint Rose tacked on an insurance run in the sixth following an RBI double from junior right fielder Steph Luce.

Butterbrodt paved the way for the Golden Knights behind a 3-for-4 effort. She also scored three times and drove in a pair. Luce and Kuilema contributed two hits apiece as did Nelson. The latter also collected three RBI. Arbogast tossed 4.1 innings of relief to pick up the victory. She yielded only an earned run and scattered four hits.

Both clubs will close out their respective 2012 regular-season this weekend. Saint Rose has a day off before heading to Saint Michael's College for a noon doubleheader on Sunday. Meanwhile, Franklin Pierce stays home to host Le Moyne College for a pair at 2:00 pm tomorrow.
