ALBANY – Sophomore southpaw Sarah Harrison tossed all 14.0 innings and visiting Le Moyne College pounded out a collective 30 hits to sweep a
Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader against The College of Saint Rose today at Cathy Cummings Haker Field. The Dolphins took the opener 7-2 and then walked away with a 12-2 victory in the nightcap to pick up a point in the year-long
Upstate Challenge between the two institutions.
Harrison chalked up a combined 18 strikeouts on the way to picking up her league-leading 20th and 21st wins of the year. She surrendered just two earned runs along the way and also had three hits throughout the afternoon.
Every player in the starting lineup finished with a hit as the Dolphins (23-23/17-9 NE-10) collected 16 altogether in the opener. Senior catcher Morgan Edmondson led the way with a 3-for-4 effort and also drove in a pair. Harrison helped her own cause by going 2-for-3 with an RBI single.
Sophomore center fielder
Amber Loussedes finished 2-for-3 to lead the way for the Golden Knights (12-27/8-18 NE-10). Loussedes initially broke up Harrison's no-hit bid with a bunt single in the fourth and then singled to center field in the sixth. Sophomore designated player
Olivia Reeves and freshman shortstop
Marisa Bird also had one base hit apiece.
Saint Rose cut into a five-run deficit with a pair in the bottom of the sixth. Sophomore left fielder
Val Nelson reached on a fielder's choice and eventually scored when junior right fielder
Steph Luce grounded out. Reeves followed with an RBI single that plated Loussedes to make it a 5-2 ballgame.
Le Moyne responded with two of its own in the top of the seventh thanks to a run scoring double by junior right fielder Demetra Kermidas and an RBI base knock by Harrison to put things out of reach.
In the nightcap, the Dolphins manufactured at least a run in every inning except the first to provide plenty of support for Harrison. It was already a 7-1 affair when Le Moyne scored five times in the seventh to remove all doubt about the final outcome. Edmondson provided the big blow behind a three-run double to right center.
Junior infielder
Rachel Reed provided a spark for the Golden Knights with her fourth home run of the year, a two-out solo shot in the sixth. Saint Rose got its lone other run via an RBI single from Luce in the bottom of the seventh.
Both squads return to the ballpark on Saturday with road games on tap. Saint Rose heads to Saint Michael's College for a noon twin-bill, while Le Moyne heads to Franklin Pierce University for a 2:00 pm start.
