Box Score 2 GARDEN CITY, NY – A second inning solo home run allowed host Adelphi to complete a
Northeast-10 Conference sweep against The College of Saint Rose today at Janet L. Ficke Field. The Panthers won the opener 4-0 and then spoiled an outstanding outing by Golden Knights freshman right-hander
Lauren Sputo with a 1-0 victory in the finale.
Sputo faced just four batters above the minimum and allowed only a round-tripper to Adelphi (23-14-1/14-6 NE-10) senior first baseman Amanda Krier. Sputo scattered three hits throughout 6.0 innings of work and dug out of a second and third base jam in the fifth to keep Saint Rose within striking distance.
Sophomore designated player
Olivia Reeves finished 2-for-4 and freshman center fielder
Kari Bird wound up 1-for-1 to lead the Golden Knights (10-23/6-14 NE-10) offense.
In the first game, the Panthers scored once in both the first and second innings and added two more in the fourth, which proved to be enough for senior pitcher Devon Kelly who allowed just three singles in a complete game victory than ran her record to 10-6 on the year.
Freshman catcher
Alexis Williams, junior first baseman
Rachel Reed, and sophomore left fielder
Val Nelson accounted for the three Saint Rose base hits.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights return home this weekend for a pair of 12:15 pm conference doubleheaders. Saint Rose will welcome Southern New Hampshire on Saturday and will then entertain Saint Anselm on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Panthers have a non-conference twin-bill at Georgian Court College in Lakewood, NJ tomorrow.
