Box Score 2 CLERMONT, FL – The College of Saint Rose softball team split a pair of non-conference games this morning at the 2012 NTC Spring Games in Florida. The Golden Knights received a solid pitching performance to grab a 4-1 victory over the University of Saint Francis (IL) in game one. However, Concordia College got a walk-off triple in the bottom of the eighth to walk away with a 9-8 triumph in game two.
Freshman right-hander
Lauren Sputo picked up her first collegiate victory for Saint Rose (2-4) in the opener. Sputo piled up 10 strikeouts over the distance, walked one and did not surrender an earned run. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles.
The Golden Knights never trailed as senior infielder
Kayla Kuilema and sophomore outfielder
Olivia Reeves each scored in the top of the first to provide an early 2-0 edge. Kuilema walked and then scored on Reeves' double. Reeves moved up a base on a passed ball and then came across on an error by the left fielder.
After the Fighting Saints (2-3) cut their deficit in half with an unearned run in the fourth, Reeves homered in the seventh to provide the final margin. Her two-run blast plated classmate
Amber Loussedes, who reached earlier with a base hit. Reeves wound up 2-for-4 in the contest.
In a wild game two, Concordia (2-2) erased a 6-2 deficit with four runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to take a 7-6 lead. Saint Rose showed its resolve with a run of its own in the seventh thanks to an error by the Clippers, one of eight in the game.
The international tiebreaker followed in the eighth and the Golden Knights drew first blood to take an 8-7 advantage. However, Concordia senior catcher Victoria Pisciotta walked to lead off the bottom half. Junior outfielder Kristina Patrocinio then delivered a walk-off triple to propel the Clippers.
Senior right-hander
Courtney Galuski recorded four strikeouts throughout 4.2 innings of work before giving way to Sputo in the fifth. Sputo tossed the final 2.2 innings to figure in both decisions today. Loussedes, Reeves and Kuilema each had a pair of hits for Saint Rose as did freshman outfielder
Brittany Banks. The latter finished 2-for-2 with a double.
The Golden Knights are back in action tomorrow morning with two more games on the schedule. Saint Rose meets Bellevue University at 9:00 am and then takes on Hannibal-LaGrange University at 11:00 am.
