Box Score 2 CLERMONT, FL – The College of Saint Rose softball team allowed a six run lead to evaporate and then plated two in the top of the seventh to upend Post University 11-9 in the opener of a twin-bill today at the NTC Spring Games. The Golden Knights nearly overcame a three-run deficit in game two, but fell 3-2 at the hands of #24 Grand Valley State.
In the opener, Saint Rose (1-3) pounded out 12 hits after being limited to just four combined in a doubleheader less than 24 hours ago. Sophomore outfielder
Amber Loussedes went 3-for-4 and was just a triple shy of the cycle. Classmate
Olivia Reeves finished 2-for-3 with a pair of walks, while senior infielder
Kayla Kuilema wound up 2-for-4 with a walk.
Senior right-hander
Courtney Galuski was solid out of the bullpen all day for the Golden Knights. Galuski tossed 3.1 innings of shutout ball and picked up the victory. She surrendered just a pair of hits and fanned three.
Saint Rose got things going early by plating five runs in the first. Loussedes belted a leadoff double, moved up on a sacrifice bunt by freshman infielder
Marisa Bird and then came across via an RBI single by Reeves. Junior infielder
Rachel Reed and freshman right-hander
Lauren Sputo each had RBI singles as well in the opening frame.
After the Eagles (0-2) scored seven times in the fourth to grab a 9-6 lead, the Golden Knights answered with one in the fifth and two in the sixth thanks to an inside-the-park homer by Loussedes that knotted things 9-9. Saint Rose finally took control in the top of the seventh behind an error and an RBI single from Bird.
In game two, the Golden Knights fell behind 3-0 after two, but manufactured a run in the fourth. Reeves walked, moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kuilema and then came around on a double by senior infielder
Jessica Butterbrodt. Kuilema singled in the seventh and Butterbrodt walked to place tying run on base. However, after Kuilema scored on a throwing error Butterbrodt was stranded to cap things.
Galuski was again sensational out of the bullpen for Saint Rose. She tossed 4.1 innings of shutout ball, yielded only a base hit and recorded three strikeouts.
The Golden Knights have a day off before returning to action Monday morning. Saint Rose plays Saint Francis (IL) at 9:00 am, which precedes an 11:00 am encounter with Concordia.
