Box Score 2 ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose smacked a combined five home runs on the way to a pair of Northeast-10 Conference victories over visiting American International College today at Cathy Cummings Haker Field. The Golden Knights, who snapped a four-game skid, walked away with a 4-2 triumph in the opener and then overcame a three-run deficit to win game two 8-3.
Senior lefty
Sarah Arbogast put together a strong performance in the circle for Saint Rose in the opener. Arbogast (2-4) yielded five hits over the distance to register her first complete game of the season.
Meanwhile, sophomore outfielder
Olivia Reeves provided plenty of firepower for the Golden Knights. Reeves jacked a solo shot in the first and followed that up with a two-run blast in the third. Freshman shortstop
Marisa Bird added an RBI single in the fifth to cap the scoring for Saint Rose.
The Golden Knights (6-13/2-4 NE-10) maintained a 4-0 cushion until the top of the seventh when American International made things interesting. Junior catcher Stephanie Belanger singled up the middle to lead things off. Senior outfielder Michele Niejadlik followed with a two-run shot over the right field wall to cut the Yellow Jackets' deficit in half. However, Arbogast got a pair of ground balls and a pop-up to close things out.
Reeves wound up 2-for-2 with three RBI and a walk, while sophomore outfielder
Amber Loussedes finished 2-for-3 and scored two runs.
In game two, Saint Rose picked away at a 3-0 deficit with two runs in the third thanks to back-to-back RBI singles by Reeves and senior infielder
Kayla Kuilema. Reeves then knotted things 3-3 with her third homer of the day, a solo blast in the fifth.
The Golden Knights opened the flood gates with a five-run sixth that was fueled by consecutive home runs from Kuilema and junior infielder
Rachel Reed. Kuilema hit a towering three-run drive to center field, while Reed touched all four bases following a rope over the right field fence.
Freshman right-hander
Lauren Sputo took care of the rest for Saint Rose. Sputo recorded six strikeouts and did not surrender a walk to earn the complete-game victory. Meanwhile, Reeves extended her season-long hit streak to eight games with a 2-for-3 effort. Loussedes and Kuilema went 2-for-3 as well.
Both squads have a pair of league doubleheaders on the schedule tomorrow. Saint Rose welcomes Assumption College to Albany, while American International heads to Le Moyne College. Both contests are set to start at noon.
