Game Coverage: Live Stats
ALBANY - The College of Saint Rose softball team returns to action this afternoon as the Golden Knights prepare to host American International College in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader. Game one is set for noon from Cathy Cummings Haker Field at the Christian Plumeri Sports Complex.
LAST TIME OUT
Saint Rose was unable to come up with the big hit all afternoon as visiting Bloomfield College swept a non-conference doubleheader by scores of 3-2 and 2-0 on Thursday. The Golden Knights stranded 11 runners in the opener, including the bottom of the seventh when they loaded the bases with two outs. Senior southpaw
Sarah Arbogast tossed 4.0 innings of one-hit ball in relief and faced only one batter over the minimum. Sophomore outfielder
Olivia Reeves wound up 1-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run, while classmate
Amber Loussedes finished 2-for-4 with a run. In game two, the Deacons pushed across a pair in the third that ultimately sealed the contest. Saint Rose tried to threaten in its final at-bat by placing the tying run on second base, but Bloomfield got a ground ball and a strikeout to secure the victory. Reeves and senior infielders
Kayla Kuilema and
Lindsey David each had base hits for the Golden Knights.
2011 vs. AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL (0-2)
The Yellow Jackets swept the regular-season series last year by respective scores of 6-1 and 9-1.
SAINT ROSE DIAMOND NOTES
Reeves extended her hitting streak to six games on Thursday. Reeves is tied for first in the NE-10 with a team-best 15 runs so far this year. She is also tied for seventh in slugging percentage (.640) and is tied for ninth in RBI (10). The Golden Knights are fourth in the conference with nine home runs. They are also fifth in doubles (18) and sixth in walks (41). Saint Rose comes into today looking to snap a four-game skid while picking up its first NE-10 win of the year.
AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL DIAMOND NOTES
The Yellow Jackets snapped a five-game skid by taking the second game of their NE-10 twin-bill at New Haven on Tuesday. American International has gone just 1-5 on the road this year. Marchand is tied for seventh in the league with 12 runs. She is also tied for sixth in walks (7) and is 11th in on-base percentage (.475). The Yellow Jackets are sixth in the NE-10 in home runs (5), seventh in doubles (17) and eighth in slugging percentage (.375).
CANCER AWARENESS DAY
Softball team members will wear pink jerseys and shoelaces in support of breast cancer awareness during tomorrow's doubleheader versus Assumption College. Furthermore, the bases on the softball diamonds will be painted pink in honor of the day. Donation stations will be located at the field and color coordinated balloons will line the complex as well.
UP NEXT
Both squads have a pair of league doubleheaders on the schedule tomorrow. Saint Rose welcomes Assumption College to Albany, while American International heads to Le Moyne College. Both contests are set to start at noon.
