Box Score 2 ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose was unable to come up with the big hit this afternoon as visiting Bloomfield College swept a non-conference doubleheader against the Golden Knights at Cathy Cummings Haker Field. The Deacons, who have now won four in a row, held on for a 3-2 triumph in the opener and then received a stellar pitching performance to capture a 2-0 win in game two.
Saint Rose (4-13) stranded 11 runners in the opener, which led to its demise. The Golden Knights loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to pull even. Freshman shortstop
Marisa Bird smacked a leadoff double and sophomore outfielder
Olivia Reeves walked to set things up. However, Bloomfield got a pop up and a pair of strikeouts to put things away.
Senior southpaw
Sarah Arbogast did her best to keep Saint Rose close. Arbogast tossed 4.0 innings of one-hit ball in relief of senior right-hander
Courtney Galuski. Arbogast collected two strikeouts and faced only one batter over the minimum.
Reeves initially cut into a two-run deficit for the Golden Knights with a solo shot over the right field wall in the third inning. Her third homer of the year made it a 3-2 ballgame, which ultimately capped the scoring in the contest. Reeves wound up 1-for-2 with a walk, run and an RBI. Meanwhile, classmate
Amber Loussedes finished 2-for-4 with a run.
Junior outfielder Alexandria Smith took over for Bloomfield (15-6) in the circle in the fourth and subsequently picked up the victory. Smith recorded four strikeouts and scattered three hits in 4.0 innings of relief work. She also went 1-for-3 and scored a run after starting the game in left field.
In the nightcap, the Deacons pushed across two runs in the third when sophomore shortstop Angie Yoshizu cleared the bases with a double to left field. That was all the run support sophomore right-hander Ally Schraer needed. Schraer yielded just three hits, all singles, chalked up four strikeouts and did not walk a batter to earn the complete-game shutout.
Saint Rose tried to threaten once again in its final at-bat. Kuilema and senior infielder
Lindsey David each singled to bring the tying run aboard with one out. However, Schraer induced a ground ball and then picked up a strikeout to end the contest.
Reeves extended her hitting streak to six games, which accounted for the lone other base hit for the Golden Knights. Smith wound up 2-for-4 and scored a run, while junior infielder Samantha Dugan was 2-for-2 with a walk for the Deacons.
Saint Rose picks up its Northeast-10 Conference schedule Saturday when the Golden Knights welcome American International College to Albany for a noon doubleheader. Meanwhile, Bloomfield returns to action tomorrow with a non-conference twin-bill versus Merrimack College. Game one is set for 2:00 pm.
