Box Score 2 BRIARCLIFF, NY – Senior third baseman Lauren Bell belted a walk-off home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh that allowed host Pace University to sweep a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader versus The College of Saint Rose today. Bell gave the Setters a 9-8 triumph in the nightcap after taking a 7-1 victory in the opener.
Junior lefty Chelsea Shea scattered four hits over 6.0 innings to keep the Golden Knights (4-11/0-4 NE-10) at bay in game one. Meanwhile, Pace (11-1/2-0 NE-10) pounded out 10 hits while taking advantage of a two-run third and a three-run fifth to give itself some breathing room.
Sophomore left fielder
Olivia Reeves provided a spark for Saint Rose with her second long ball of the year via a solo shot in the sixth. Junior right fielder
Steph Luce finished 2-for-3 and senior second baseman
Kayla Kuilema added a base hit as well.
Game two was a much different story as the Golden Knights fought back from a 5-1 deficit with five tallies in the fourth. Kuilema smacked a leadoff homer to get things going. Senior infielder
Lindsey David added an RBI single and freshman catcher
Alexis Williams finished things off with a two-run blast that put Saint Rose up 6-5.
The Setters regained the lead with a pair in the bottom half, but the Golden Knights were up to the task and answered with two of their own in the fifth. David and freshman outfielder
Kari Bird were issued back-to-back walks with the bases jammed to make it an 8-7 ballgame.
It was at that point when Bell put Pace on her shoulders. She knotted things 8-8 with an RBI single after senior center fielder Sabrina Gonzalez doubled two batters earlier. That set the stage for her heroics after Saint Rose senior southpaw
Sarah Arbogast fanned the first two batters of the frame.
Kuilema, Reeves and sophomore center fielder
Amber Loussedes each registered a pair of hits to pave the way for the Golden Knights. Bell wound up 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs to lead the Setters, who have won four straight and 11 of 12 overall.
Saint Rose has a day off before welcoming Bloomfield College to Albany for a non-league twin-bill on Thursday. The opener is set for 3:00 pm. Pace is back in action tomorrow with a non-conference doubleheader on the schedule versus Caldwell College. Game one is set for 3:00 pm.
