GOLDEN KNIGHTS FALL TO STONEHILL IN NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE OPENER

Sophomore outfielder Olivia Reeves drove in a combined three runs in today's NE-10 doubleheader
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, FL – The College of Saint Rose capped off its stay in Florida with a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader versus Stonehill College this afternoon. The Skyhawks, who also opened up their 2012 campaign this morning, took the opener 11-3 in five innings and then claimed a 5-1 triumph in game two.

The Golden Knights (2-9/0-2 NE-10) tried to stage a comeback in game one by cutting into a 7-0 deficit with three runs in the top of the third. Junior outfielder Steph Luce walked and sophomore outfielder Amber Loussedes reached on an error to get things going. Freshman infielder Marisa Bird drove home Luce with an RBI single and then sophomore outfielder Olivia Reeves delivered a two-run single.

It was all the run support Saint Rose could muster. Stonehill (2-0/2-0 NE-10) responded with four more runs in the bottom of the fourth and held the Golden Knights scoreless in the top of the fifth to secure its first win of the 2012 campaign.

Bird and Reeves each went 1-for-2 to provide the lone base hits of the contest for Saint Rose.

In game two, senior right-hander Kaitlin Andrews surrendered a mere one run throughout 6.0 innings of work to lead the Skyhawks. The Golden Knights cut their 2-0 shortfall in half with a run in the top of the sixth. Reeves grounded out to third to push across senior infielder Lindsey David, who doubled to start the inning.

Stonehill once again found an answer via three runs in the bottom of the frame to provide the final margin. Senior infielder Kayla Kuilema tripled to pace the Saint Rose offense. Meanwhile, freshman right-hander Lauren Sputo fanned six and yielded three earned runs in 5.1 innings in the circle for the Golden Knights.

Saint Rose returns to action Wednesday afternoon when the Golden Knights welcome Post University to Albany for their 2012 home-opener. Game one of the non-league twin-bill is set to begin at 2:30 pm. The Skyhawks also have a pair of games on the schedule tomorrow in Florida. Stonehill entertains West Chester at 1:00 pm and then squares off against Lock Haven at 5:00 pm.
