The Plot: The College of Saint Rose welcomes Assumption for a
Northeast-10 Conference encounter tonight. Both teams are looking to get back on the winning track after suffering road losses on Saturday.
Last Time Out: Two scoring runs at the onset of each half and some outstanding free throw shooting allowed host Pace University to hand Saint Rose a 73-63 setback on Saturday.
The Setters scored the game's first 18 points, took off on a 16-2 run in the opening two minutes of the second half to go back up by 14, 48-34, with 10:22 remaining, and furthermore went 16-for-18 from the charity stripe throughout the final 20 minutes to seal their fourth consecutive victory.
Senior forward
Sheldon Griffin had a season-high 19 points, via 4-for-6 shooting from 3-point territory, and sophomore center
Dominykas Milka had 18 points and seven rebounds throughout 31 minutes off the bench to lead Saint Rose. Senior guard
Rob Gutierrez wound up with eight points, a career-high 11 rebounds and three assists; while junior guard
Andre Pope added 10 points.
Junior forward Keon Williams posted a “double-double” behind 21 points and 10 rebounds, including seven from the offensive glass, to lead the Setters.
Last Meeting: Saint Rose led host Assumption for more than 35 minutes, but the Greyhounds got a late 3-pointer and some key free throws down the stretch to rally for a 60-55 victory back on December 6 in Worcester, MA.
Gutierrez was one of three players in double-figures for the Golden Knights with 16 points. Milka contributed 13 points in 21 minutes of reserve duty, while senior forward
Brian Hanuschak had 11 points despite battling foul trouble.
Senior guard Kevin Donahue paved the way for Assumption with 22 points via 8-of-13 shooting. Junior forward Tim Beinert finished one board shy of a “double-double” with 12 points and nine caroms.
The Series: Saint Rose had won three straight against the Greyhounds prior to December's setback in Worcester, MA.
Scouting Saint Rose (5-18/5-14 NE-10): The Golden Knights close out the regular-season with three straight home games beginning tonight…Hanuschak became just the 26th player in program history to record 1,000 career points last Wednesday evening…Pope is 10 away from joining Hanuschak and senior guard Rob Gutierrez in that exclusive club…Three 1,000 point scorers certainly stands out, although the 1996-97 Saint Rose team had five…Gutierrez leads four double-figure scorers at 12.6 points per-game…He is also tied for 11th in the league at 1.6 steals per-outing...Milka is averaging 11.9 points and 5.6 rebounds in 22.3 minutes of reserve duty, while Hanuschak and Pope are averaging 11.0 ppg and 10.7 ppg respectively…Hanuschak also hauls in a team-leading 6.3 boards on a regular basis and is shooting a league-best 60.9 percent (106-for-174) from the floor...Additionally, Hanuschak is one of only seven players in program annals to record more than 1,000 points and 700 rebounds…Milka was named a Capital One/CoSIDA District 1 Academic All-American® last week.
Scouting Assumption (10-13/8-11 NE-10): Assumption is coming off of Saturday's 70-51 loss at league leader Adelphi…The Greyhounds are 7-3 at home this year, but just 1-9 on the road…They are furthermore 5-0 in overtime games, including a pair within the past 10 days…Senior guard Kevin Donahue and junior forward Tim Beinert provide 46.7 percent of the team's offensive production…The former stands fifth in the NE-10 with a 16.6 scoring average thanks to 69 3-pointers, the league's second highest total…Beinert is scoring at a 14.9 point per-game clip and also hauls in a team-leading 7.9 rebounds on a regular basis…Furthermore, junior guard Ryan Rozsnaki is the country's third leading assists man…He is averaging 8.0 helpers per-game.
Up Next: Both clubs have home conference dates on tap for Saturday. The Golden Knights will entertain American International in an unusual 1:30 pm start, while the Greyhounds will host Pace University for a 3:30 pm tip-off.
